My friend Susie gave me an amaryllis bulb two years ago, it bloomed, it was beautiful, and then it was done. The foliage remained, and I kept watering it for the next year and a half. A few months ago, I gave up watering it, and cut off all the foliage. The bulb seemed to have dried up and I stuck it in a corner. As I was passing that corner about a month later, I saw that the bulb sprung forth a bud.

Ever have one of those weeks when everything seems broken? Lots of broken shipped work this week, and a bit of broken confidence as well. It’s been one of those weeks. Amidst the breakage there was a bright whole spot, a lovely photo by Amada Soule of her gleena 7 mug. I love seeing my pieces being used, it makes me happy, and keeps me going.

There is something purely true about Alena Hennessy’s work. It embodies an innocence that takes one back to carefree summer vacations — when you had time to lay on your back and watch clouds in shapes of animals roll lazily across the sky.
How lucky that Alena is offering an online course called Abundant Wild Life at squam. It is rare to have such direct access to an artist and her process. A four-week workshop with Alena will be running April 30 through May 25, with registration now open here.
